Despite losing two pass catchers to injury in the first half, Aaron Rodgers tossed five touchdowns on Monday night as the Green Bay Packers earned a 38-28 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Receiver Davante Adams (ankle) and Andrew Quarless (knee) both were forced to the locker room in the first half. It didn’t matter for Rodgers. He completed 24-of-35 passes for 333 yards as the Packers offense tore through Kansas City’s defense.
Randall Cobb caught three touchdowns while James Jones and Ty Montgomery each found the end zone as well.
The Chiefs mounted a bit of rally after digging a 31-7 hole. Alex Smith threw his first touchdown pass to wide receiver since the 2013 playoffs, connecting with Jeremy Maclin on a 5-yard score late in the third quarter. Jamaal Charles also added a pair of touchdown runs to pull back within 10 late in the fourth quarter.
Charles rushed for just 49 yards but had three touchdowns for Kansas City.
The Packers defense sacked Smith eight times in the game.
