Accorsi denies that he’s taking a role with the Browns

Amid rumors and reports that former Browns G.M. Ernie Accorsi will be returning to the team as General Manager or in some other capacity, Accorsi tells Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer that it won’t be happening.

Accorsi says that he is “happily retired” and not talking to owner Randy Lerner about taking a role with the team.

“I am not taking any G.M. job anywhere. Period,” Accorsi said. “I am not taking any full-time job. I serve the league office as a consultant. I have consulted in various areas with four NFL clubs the past two years.”

Grossi also reports that, despite Accorsi’s gushings about Kokinis, Accorsi’s top recommendation for the G.M. job in January was Dave Gettleman of the Giants. Lerner instead went with Kokinis, who was the preferred choice of coach Eric Mangini.

So now, presumably, the top candidate to replace Kokinis should be Gettleman. Unless Mangini has set his sights on detroying one of his other friendships.

Assuming he has any left.
