As previously mentioned by Gantt, the Eagles have extended the contract of quarterback Trent Edwards by a year. Before the Eagles did that, however, they cut him.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Eagles terminated Edwards’ one-year deal. It became official on Wednesday.
So he technically signed a new contract. It’s unclear at this point whether he’ll get more or less money in 2012.
He was due to earn a total of $754,960 in 2012, via a $700,000 base salary, a $25,000 signing bonus, and a $29,960 workout bonus.
Either way, the new two-year deal gives the Eagles a bird in the hand to serve as the backup to Nick Foles next season, if team decides not to keep Mike Vick for 2013 at the tidy sum of $16.5 million.
