In a move that’s been coming for weeks if not months, the Broncos finally released linebacker D.J. Williams, according to multiple reports.
With a $6 million salary, Williams was expendable from an economic standpoint and a football standpoint, with the emergence of Wesley Woodyard. While those two factors are plenty, multiple suspensions last year made him more trouble than he was worth for the Broncos.
“We appreciate the contributions made by D.J. Williams during his time with the Broncos,” Broncos executive John Elway said in a statement released by the team. “He was a solid player with this team for a number of years, showing a lot of versatility at linebacker. Our organization wishes D.J. all the best going forward.”
The Broncos also released quarterback Caleb Hanie, after he spent the year as their inactive third quarterback.
