Lost in the Browns’ 0-5 start is the fact that the Browns five straight losses to start the 2012 season coupled with six straight losses to end the 2011 season means that the Browns have now lost 11 in a row.
It ties a franchise record for consecutive losses. Hooray?
The 2011-12 Browns will try to avoid take sole ownership of the record on Sunday against the Bengals. And as the so-called “factory of sadness” hopes to churn out something slightly more palatable on its assembly line, the Cleveland Plain Dealer has taken a look back at the last 11-game skid.
The best anecdote comes from a Steelers game in which Hall of Fame defensive tackle Joe Greene “kicked [offensive lineman Bob] McKay several times in the stomach and groin.” For the infraction, Greene was fined a whopping $500. McKay also was fined, apparently for getting his gut and crotch in the way of Greene’s shoe.
Hopefully there will be no stomach or groin kicking on Sunday at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Browns fans would tolerate it if that’s what it takes to get a win.
