The status of the Cardinals’ leading rusher for Sunday’s key matchup with Kansas City is somewhat in question.
Tailback Andre Ellington isn’t expected to practice this week because of a “severe” hip pointer suffered in Sunday’s loss at Atlanta, Cardinals coach Bruce Arians told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday night, according to Fox reporter and SiriusXM host Alex Marvez. According to Marvez, Ellington’s status will be determined on Sunday, with Arians hopeful he can play.
A dual-threat back, the 25-year-old Ellington has racked up 660 yards rushing and 395 yards receiving for 9-3 Arizona. However, Ellington has gained just 3.3 yards per carry, with no rush longer than 22 yards. He has played through a foot injury all season, with the Cardinals regularly limiting his practice reps.
If Ellington is out, Marion Grice and Stepfan Taylor would likely be the Cardinals’ top options in the backfield, with Robert Hughes and Michael Bush in reserve.
