Lavonte David will be staying in Tampa Bay for years to come.

The Buccaneers announced this afternoon that David has agreed to a long-term contract extension. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, it’s a five-year deal worth $50.25 million, with $25.56 million guaranteed.

The Bucs took David in the second round of the 2012 NFL draft, and he made an immediate impact as one of the league’s best rookies. By 2013, he was a first-team All-Pro linebacker, and it was clear that the Bucs had one of their franchise cornerstones.

Now David is in place for years to come, on a Bucs team that is starting to assemble the kind of young talent needed to get out of the cellar.
