Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress has been sued nine times since 2000 by people whose complaints range from not paying for a home inspection to unpaid taxes to a Florida car accident, according to the Associated Press. Richard Malin, a home inspector in suburban Pittsburgh, was hired by Burress in 2002 to look over a house. He and Burress agreed on a price of just under $500 for the job, but Burress refused to pay after the inspection and Malin eventually took him to court. A judge ruled in Malin’s favor and ordered Burress to pay $700. “I got a note from Plaxico saying, ‘Sorry for the inconvenience. Please inform the court that the judgment has been paid,”’ Malin said. “Then the check bounced.” Burress’ other lawsuits include a homeowners associations and school district in Pennsylvania, a different homeowners association in Virginia Beach (where he was also $14,471 behind on local taxes), an auto body shop in Tampa and Brian Van Dusen, who claims he and Burress partnered up to throw a series of parties in a Pittsburgh bar until Burress stopped paying his share of the bills. None of the bills have been particularly large for a man making as much as Burress, he just seems to have an aversion to paying his bills. Most of them were settled and paid once the suits were filed. In January, Plaxico’s obstinance paid off. A Pennsylvania jury decided he owed a car dealer $1,700 for damages to a loaned truck, instead of the $19,000 sought by the dealer. He hasn’t been sued for anything related to shooting himself in the leg as of yet.
