Dolphins linebacker Cameron Wake’s absence from the start of the team’s offseason program last week raised the possibility of a prolonged standoff between the player and the team over a new deal.

That possibility died on Thursday when Wake returned to join his teammates. A conversation with coach Joe Philbin helped bring Wake back into the fold, according to Wake’s agent Paul Sheehy.

Cameron felt like he had to go in to speak with Joe Philbin face to face, man to man, out of respect to him as a new coach,” said Sheehy, via Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. “They spoke, and Cameron decided to work with his teammates during this voluntary period, while I work on the business side of things with the Dolphins.

Wake is set to make $615,000 this season, the final year of the four-year deal he signed when coming over from the CFL, and wants a new contract. Salguero reports that there’s nothing imminent on that front, although both sides want to reach an agreement that keeps Wake in Miami.
