Stephen Cooper has spent all eight of his NFL seasons with the San Diego Chargers. His ninth season will start -- and possibly finish -- with the Chargers, too.

The Chargers have announced that Cooper has agreed to terms on a one-year deal.

“We are happy Coop decided to return to the Chargers,” G.M. A.J. Smith said. “He wanted to explore the free agent market and weigh his options. He will bring his experience and more veteran leadership to our linebacker corps.”

Cooper joined the team as an undrafted free agent out of Maine. He has appeared in all but eight games in eight seasons, with 63 regular-season starts.
