Another highly paid veteran has agreed to restructure his contract to give his team more salary cap space.
The Cowboys have restructured the contract of defensive end DeMarcus Ware, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. The deal will convert $5 million of this season’s base salary into a signing bonus, and as a result Ware will make the same amount of money this year as he would have under his old deal, but will cost $4 million less against the Cowboys’ salary cap.
As we noted earlier today, the Cowboys plan to restructure the contracts of several players to create more salary cap space by March 12, when free agency starts.
The Cowboys are tight against the cap and are dealing with the ramifications of the salary cap penalty the league office handed them last year.
