Dion Jordan could be involved in Dolphins’ special teams

Jordan

When the Dolphins traded up from No. 12 to No. 3 in round one of the draft, they primarily got a defensive end.

They also may have gotten a guy who’ll show up elsewhere.

No, not at tight end. (That’s the position Dion Jordan played when he arrived at Oregon.) Instead, Jordan could play special teams.

Specifically, coach Joe Philbin hasn’t closed the door on that possibility.

“He likes football,” Philbin said of Jordan, in a Saturday session with the media. “I think one of the things that we heard resoundingly through the evaluation process is this kid was a football player. He liked to play the game, he is passionate about it. He is willing to make a contribution any way he could. We’ll see; certainly I wouldn’t rule anything out with him in terms of his contribution on special teams.”

The long, tall Jordan could be an intriguing addition to any unit charged with blocking balls launched by an opponent’s foot. Given his size and speed (4.6 seconds in the 40), he’d also be an intriguing option with the ball in his hands in the broken field, if a kickoff or a punt would ever happen to finds its way to his possession.
