With tight end Jordan Cameron jumping from the Browns to the Dolphins, the Dolphins have a potential glut at the position.
Previously, they applied the transition tender to tight end Charles Clay, which makes him eligible for a $7.017 million salary. If he accepts the tender, the salary becomes fully guaranteed.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Dolphins do not intend to remove the transition tender from Clay.
The details of Cameron’s deal aren’t currently known. It’s possible that the contract was structured to give him a low cap number in 2015, so that the Dolphins could keep both Cameron and Clay under contract, shifting the focal point of the passing game from receivers to tight ends.
The Bills and Browns are believed to be interested in Clay. If any team signs Clay to an offer sheet, the Dolphins would have a right to match the offer. They’d receive no compensation if they decline.
