The Giants made a significant upgrade at punter in 2011, dumping Matt Dodge and pilfering Steve Weatherford from the Jets.

It paid off for the Giants, with Weatherford putting three punts inside the 10 during Super Bowl XLVI, an all-time Super Bowl record.

It also paid off for Weatherford, first with the one-year, $2.6 million franchise tag and now with a long-term deal.

A league source tells PFT that Weatherford has agreed to terms on a five-year, $12.75 million contract. The deal contains $3.25 million guaranteed.

And so Weatherford becomes the third of 21 franchise players to sign a long-term deal, joining Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson and Colts defensive end Robert Mathis.
