JAGS START MAKING CHANGES TO STAFF

Some members of the Jacksonville Jaguars staff got a lump of coal in their Christmas stockings Friday. Head coach Jack Del Rio informed Mark Asanovich, the team’s strength and conditioning coach, and Les Ebert, his assistant, that they wouldn’t be asked back for the 2009 season. Last week, Del Rio gave a hint that such a move might be in the offing when he pointed to the amount of injuries the team’s had over the last three seasons. 43 players have wound up on injured reserve since 2006. “I’m concerned with the number of injuries we’ve had,” Del Rio said. “I think we need to make sure that we’re giving ourselves every advantage that we can. We’ll look at everything, obviously. The conditioning component of it is important. Sometimes you just have bad luck, but we’ll look at everything.” The coaches will have their last day of work Tuesday as the team prepares for their season closing game in Baltimore. There figure to be other changes coming on the heels of a disappointing year for the 5-10 Jaguars. Rumors already place GM James “Shack” Harris on the chopping block, and when Del Rio and owner Wayne Weaver get through looking at “everything” others will likely join him.
