John Dorsey: Conversations continue with Branden Albert

Earlier this month, a report out of Kansas City indicated that the Chiefs have decided to let left tackle Branden Albert walk when free agency opens on March 11.

Not surprisingly, Chiefs General Manager John Dorsey wasn’t willing to confirm that when he met with reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine on Friday.

“That’s the first I’ve heard about it,” Dorsey said, via Adam Teicher of ESPN.com. “We have ongoing conversations with all of our unrestricted free agents. It just so happens we’ve had conversations with Brandon’s representatives, and that’s the beauty of the combine. Those guys are here. We will continue to have conversations with those representatives as the combine passes.”

Dorsey also said that 2013 first overall pick Eric Fisher is the team’s right tackle “right now,” but that would likely change if Albert does move on to another team as a free agent. Teicher thinks that such a change is in the cards as Albert and the Chiefs don’t appear to be close on a long-term deal and Dorsey said the team is unlikely to use the franchise tag this season.

The Chiefs also have Donald Stephenson on the roster and he played both tackle spots during the 2013 season, which provides further support for the case that Albert has played his final snap with the Chiefs.
