John Fox says Alshon Jeffery has mild hamstring strain

Alshon Jeffery

After wide receiver Alshon Jeffery left Wednesday’s practice early, coach John Fox said that Jeffery was dealing with muscle tightness without specifying which muscle was causing the problem.

Fox shed a bit more light on Jeffery’s condition Thursday when he said the wideout has a hamstring strain that he described as mild. Fox also downplayed the level of concern about Jeffery’s injury.

“We get concerned about everybody, whether they’re injured or not practicing,” Fox said, via the Chicago Sun-Times. “On the other hand, we don’t get too concerned. We’ve got guys to take their place. We got [roster] numbers. We’re at 89 now. So it’s part of camp.”

Fox’s lack of concern may not be shared throughout Chicago after Jeffery was limited to nine games because of soft tissue injuries, including one to his hamstring. Jeffery didn’t take part in the team’s voluntary work this offseason because he was in Florida working out on his own in hopes of putting an end to those injuries.

The early results of that work don’t look great and the Bears will have to hope that it isn’t the first chapter of a sequel to last season.
