John Mara laughs off Jerry Jones

When Cowboys owner Jerry Jones took a shot at his NFC East rival, saying he expected his team to “beat the Giants’ asses,” John Mara didn’t take a shot back. Instead he made a joke of it.

Mara told Mike Lupica on ESPN Radio that he wouldn’t guarantee anything more against the Giants’ games against the Cowboys this season than “We’ll show up,” and then he joked that he wasn’t aware of what Jones was saying because he was more interested in following the daily Tim Tebow news in New York.

“But that is actually the first time I’ve heard that comment,” Mara said. “I have been so caught up in the Tebow coverage that I haven’t had time for anything else.”

Mara’s joke points to the team’s general attitude: Just about everyone on the Giants, from Mara to coach Tom Coughlin to quarterback Eli Manning and on down, seems to be perfectly content to let the Jerry Joneses and Tim Tebows of the world make all the headlines. The Giants would prefer to win quietly.
