Broncos tight end Julius Thomas has missed three games with an ankle injury. In those three games, quarterback Peyton Manning has averaged a paltry 203 passing yards.
Thomas is listed as probable for Sunday’s game at San Diego. In the three games before his absence began, Manning averaged 389 passing yards.
The star tight end has three games left in a contract year, and his value has been demonstrated both in playing and in not playing. A return from Thomas should pump up the passing game, giving the Broncos the kind of balance they may need to get back to the Super Bowl and win it.
If it doesn’t, maybe there really is something wrong with Peyton. If it does, then there will be yet another narrative that folks can stick, as Manning would say, where the sun don’t shine.
