Titans receiver Justin Hunter has gone from very thin ice to very hot water.
The 2013 second-round pick, who was called out publicly by coach Ken Whisenhunt last month, currently is in a Virginia Beach jail, where he’s being held without bond.
According to News Channel 5, Hunter was charged with felonious assault following a July 3 incident at the Sandbar Raw Bar in Virginia Beach. Via the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office, the specific allegations are malicious intent, stabbing, cutting, and wounding.
Hunter is due to be arraigned on Tuesday, and he’ll likely be put on paid leave, possibly before the arraignment. The bigger question is whether the Titans will put him on waivers.
Faced with the prospect of paying him not to play, they may simply choose to not pay him to not play. Especially since he hasn’t played as well as the team had hoped in his first two seasons.
