Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno suffered a knee injury in Denver’s playoff loss to Baltimore, and four and a half months later he still can’t participate in Organized Team Activities.
The Denver Post reports that Moreno had a stem-cell procedure on his knee and has been sidelined for OTAs. There’s no word on when he’ll be back to full speed.
“He’s coming along,” coach John Fox said. “We’re going to be very cautious. When the doctors give him the full-go go-ahead, he’ll be doing everything.”
Whenever he does get to full speed, Moreno will be competing for his job. Although he finished last season as the starting running back after Willis McGahee went down with a knee injury of his own, Moreno is part of a crowded backfield that has added second-round draft pick Montee Ball to go with Ronnie Hillman, Lance Ball and Jacob Hester.
If Montee Ball plays well enough in training camp to make the Broncos’ coaches believe he can start as a rookie, either Moreno or McGahee would likely become expendable. Every day Moreno stands on the sidelines is a day he can’t prove that he deserves a spot on the 53-man roster.
