The Lions have made an addition to their defensive line with the start of training camp a little more than a week away.

The team announced Wednesday that they have signed defensive end Quanterus Smith to their 90-man roster. The Lions didn’t need to make a corresponding move as they had 88 players on their roster at the start of the day.

Smith was a fifth-round pick of the Broncos in the 2013 draft and spent his rookie year on injured reserve due to a torn ACL. He played 15 games and made 11 tackles during the 2014 season, but failed to make the Broncos out of camp last year. He spent time on the practice squads of the Jets and Jaguars last year.

Ziggy Ansah, Devin Taylor and Wallace Gilberry are likely set for roles at defensive end for the Lions as long as they are healthy, which would leave Smith, sixth-round pick Anthony Zettel and others for depth roles once camp gets underway.
