The Cardinals and Matt Leinart continue to play a game of chicken.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Matt Leinart isn’t pursuing a trade because he believes his best chance to start this year would be in Arizona. The Cardinals, however, continue to gauge interest in Leinart around the league.
This latest move by Leinart’s camp fits Florio’s theory from last night. (We actually agree with this one.) The Cardinals have no real interest in carrying four quarterbacks (or Leinart’s salary) and are just exhausting their opportunities to deal him.
Leinart wants to freely choose his next team and no team out there wants to deal with his whole contract. Mort says he would still be surprised if Leinart isn’t traded or cut.
We’d be surprised if he wasn’t cut.
