Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata played the first two games of the 2011 season under the franchise tag, at a rate of $12.5 million for one year.

He’ll finish this season, and up to the next four, under a long-term deal that could pay him up to $61 million.

Per a source with knowledge of the details of the contract, the four-year extension to the one-year, $12.5 million contract carries a value of $48.5 million. He received a $25 million signing bonus, and he’s due to earn a $10 million option bonus.

The guaranteed money is $27.1 million as of signing. Another $10 million is guaranteed for injury only, until March 2012. At that point, it becomes fully guaranteed.

Ngata will earn $44 million over the first three years.

The deal came on the final day for signing 2011 franchise players to long-term deals. If the Ravens hadn’t worked out a new contract, the franchise tender for 2012 would have been $15 million.
