The Browns aren’t sure yet whether or not center Alex Mack is done for the season, but he’s going to miss eight weeks or so under the best of circumstances so the team is going to need help at center for the next stretch.
A player who might be able to provide it started the process of getting off the non-football injury list on Wednesday. Nick McDonald is practicing with the team, which opens up the three-week window the team has to put him through the paces during the week before they must either activate him or place him on injured reserve. They can activate him at any point in that window, so McDonald, who had a wrist issue that led him to the list in the first place, could conceivably play this week.
McDonald was claimed off of waivers this summer after the Chargers dropped him from their roster and has seen action at both guard and center over the course of his career.
John Greco stepped in for Mack last Sunday and is expected to start at center against the Jaguars this weekend.
