The Panthers waited patiently, and the “quarterback of the future” everyone thought they needed fell into their laps.
Jimmy Clausen was finally taken out of his misery when the Carolina Panthers selected him with the No. 48 overall pick of the 2010 Draft.
On the field, this looks like good situation for Clausen. Carolina has a strong offensive line and an incredible running game. Matt Moore is the team’s starting quarterback, but it’s not hard to imagine Clausen getting on the field before long.
On the other hand, Clausen was drafted by John Fox. He’s a coach that hasn’t shown an ability to develop young quarterbacks and he has the least amount of job security in the league. A new Panthers coach in 2011 may want to bring in “his guy.”
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Panthers were the only team to call St. Louis Thursday night to trade up. They didn’t have the ammo, but they still got their quarterback.
