Not long after the Rams were pasted by the 49ers on Monday night, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the team had signed defensive tackle Michael Brockers to a contract extension.
Whether because there were still final details to sort out or because the team felt it was a bad look to extend players right after a poor performance by the team, no announcement from the Rams came on Tuesday or Wednesday but official word finally came on Thursday. The Rams have signed Brockers to a three-year contract that keeps him signed through the 2019 season.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the deal has a maximum value of more than $33 million and more than $16 million in guarantees.
“Retaining Michael was a priority for our organization,” coach Jeff Fisher said in a statement. “Our defensive front has always been important to us, and Michael has been a significant part in what we do on that side of the football since we drafted him. We’re excited that he is going to continue his career with us here in Los Angeles.”
There’s been talk of extensions for Fisher and General Manager Les Snead as well, although nothing has come to fruition at this point.
