Randle El: Dan Snyder held Jim Zorn back

In the days following Jim Zorn’s firing, not many people stuck up for his coaching abilities, outside of saying what a nice guy he was. Former Redskins receiver Antwaan Randle El, however, says Zorn never really got a fair chance because of meddlesome ownership.

“When Jim Zorn was there, he was hands-on,” Randle El told the Northwest Indiana Times. “He had great potential, but Dan Snyder was too involved because he didn’t trust coach Zorn as much as he did coach (Joe) Gibbs, and those were things that prevented us from success as a team.”

There are many reasons why the Zorn era didn’t work. There are even more reasons why the Redskins have recorded a 80-96 record since Snyder took over.

Snyder figures to take the same approach with new coach Mike Shanahan that he took with Gibbs, which can only be a good thing.
