Ras-I Dowling, a safety known primarily as one of Bill Belichick’s bigger draft disappointments in New England, has managed to return to an active NFL roster.

The Raiders announced that Dowling has been elevated from their practice squad to their 53-player roster.

Dowling has spent the whole season on the Raiders’ practice squad. Belichick took him with the first pick in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft, but he lasted just two years in New England and has played only nine games in his NFL career.

The Raiders also brought up linebacker Bojay Filimoeatu from the practice squad to the active roster and placed safety Larry Asante on injured reserve.
