As the Browns systematically run out of town the two quarterbacks between whom past regimes in Cleveland consistently could not choose, they’re now planning to kick the tires of a guy who’d otherwise be paid $12.7 million in 2010 to do nothing.
Former Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme will visit the Browns on Thursday, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. (The news also has been subsequently reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.)
Delhomme had moments of quality play during his career in Carolina, helping the Panthers to the Super Bowl in 2003. But he has been mediocre-to-bad lately, with a horrendous performance in the 2008 playoffs followed by a very bad 2009 season in Charlotte.
In Cleveland, he’d compete with Seneca Wallace to be the starter, assuming that Brady Quinn is traded.
For some reason, we doubt that Browns fans will be feeling any better about their prospects at the position.
