Last year, the Jets and coach Rex Ryan found a way to beat the Browns and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan in overtime, 26-20, putting a stop to an amazing run by the Browns and greasing the skids toward a postseason housecleaning in Cleveland.
This year, Rob Ryan runs the defense in Dallas, which comes to New York to face Rex in Week One.
And Rex Ryan promises to get the better of his brother, again.
“I hate to do it to him again, but we’re going to,” Rex Ryan told Jets’ season ticket holders during a recent conference call, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “We’ve got to beat ‘em.”
Last year, Rex wore a wig to mimic Rob’s long hair and stuffed a pillow under his shirt to simulate Rob’s larger belly in a press conference leading up to the game.
“It is special,” Rex said about the prospect of facing his brother. “After the game, in particular. But going into it, it doesn’t matter. The fact that it’s my brother or cousin or anybody else. It makes no difference. We’re paid to win. And that’s what we go about doing.”
The game will be played in prime time, on NBC. Last year, the Jets opened the season with a home game under the lights, and they lost to the Ravens.
