A day after he launched a series of tweets aimed at dissing the Saints and ultimately included an insult to New Orleans, Falcons receiver Roddy White apologized.

I’m sorry,” White said, per D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I wasn’t trying to offend anybody about that stuff, especially the city of New Orleans.”

White also pulled the time-honored (and often inherently lame) “out of context” move.

“Some people just take things out of context,” White said. “I just felt like that’s not what I was aiming for, to say anything about the city. They are the defending world champs.”

Maybe we simply didn’t understand the proper context of this tweet: “The grace of god gave them tht championship so that city wouldn fall apart now and now they they hot shit in my chad voice child please.”

White also explained that he wasn’t reprimanded by his boss, coach Mike Smith.

“He said, ‘Roddy just go out there and be yourself,’ White said. “‘Don’t change anything that you do.’”

That matches a Wednesday e-mail from Falcons spokesman Reggie Roberts to the Journal-Constitution, which brushed off White’s remarks.

“We simply think this was a case of one of our guys having fun on his personal Twitter account,” Roberts said. “The fact of the matter is that Monday night’s game will be played by two of the NFL’s better teams and the outcome will be decided on the field.”

Right, but the men on the field wearing fleur-de-lis now have extra motivation, both for Monday night and for a possible postseason showdown.
