The Panthers showed no indication they wanted Roman Harper back, but he is going to be able to stay in the division.
According to a tweet from his agent, the veteran defensive back is going back to the Saints.
Harper went to two Pro Bowls and won a Super Bowl with the Saints, but the Panthers made no effort to retain the 33-year-old safety in free agency.
The Saints took Harper in the second round of the 2006 draft, and he adds some veteran depth at the position. Jairus Byrd hasn’t been able to stay on the field, and they used a second-rounder this year on Vonn Bell. So if nothing else, Harper can be the kind of mentor they need in the secondary, which is a role he can still be useful in.
