The Saints have plenty of subtracting to do before they can add on the open market.
But they managed to hang onto one of their own free agents first.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Saints have reached an agreement on a new four-year deal with running back Mark Ingram.
A league source tells PFT the deal is worth $16 million.
The Saints cut Pierre Thomas this week, and more deletions are coming because of their salary cap position.
But keeping their former first-round pick was obviously a priority, even if it took him four years to live up to his draft status.
Ingram had 964 yards and nine touchdowns last season, the first time he topped 200 carries in his career.
With Thomas gone, Ingram’s going to have to carry even more of the load in the future.
