With a long-term deal possibly in the offing, Packers defensive back Sam Shields has made the first move toward multi-year security.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Shields has signed his one-year restricted free agency tender.
He’s now under contract through 2013, at a salary of $2.023 million.
Undrafted in 2010, Shields had been tendered at the second-round level. Absent a long-term deal, he’ll be eligible for unrestricted free agency next year.
