It took almost three months for the misdemeanor assault and disturbing the peace charges against Broncos safety T.J. Ward to work its way through the system, but it will only take him an afternoon to complete the sentence handed down on Monday.
The Denver Post reports Ward must perform four hours of community service by Halloween in order for the charges to be dropped according to the terms of a deal agreed to by both sides in a Denver courtroom. A spokeswoman for the city’s prosecutors said that the deal was offered to Ward because he has no prior criminal record.
Ward was arrested after an incident at a Denver strip club in May that saw him throw a glass mug in the direction of a bartender after she told him that he wasn’t allowed to bring outside liquor into the establishment. Ward’s toss was captured on video and came after the bartender poured out Ward’s drink.
Ward is subject to league discipline under the personal conduct policy, but isn’t likely to be suspended.
