Indiana running back Tevin Coleman is generally seen as being just below the likes of Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon on the list of the top runners in this year’s draft, but he isn’t giving up hope of getting selected in the first round.
Coleman said that it was “real important” that he become the first Hoosier picked in the first round in 20 years, something that was hard to see happening after Coleman missed the combine and the school’s pro day with a broken toe that he played through last season. Coleman was feeling well enough to work out for teams on Wednesday, though, and the 23 clubs that turned out probably liked what they saw.
Coleman ran two 40-yard dashes of around 4.4 seconds, confirming the kind of speed he flashed while making eight runs of 60-plus yards during the 2014 season. Coleman did agility drills and caught passes in a performance that he feels showed him in his best light.
“I think I’m the whole package,” Coleman said, via the Indianapolis Star. “I think everything I have is there and could translate to the NFL real great. ... I was just trying to showcase my speed, that my injury is all taken care of and that I can run and cut and do things like that. I’m real happy with my performance.”
Coleman said he has a trip to visit the Falcons planned for next Tuesday and that he’s already met with the Cowboys, Ravens, Panthers and Lions during the pre-draft process.
