So if the Jets were approaching their Week Two game against the Patriots like it was the Super Bowl, where’s the damn silver trophy?
The New York Jets ended an eight-game home losing streak to the Pats on Sunday, knocking off their bitter AFC East rivals for the second straight time, 16-9. (The Jets beat the Pats on a Thursday night last November, after the Pats won the first game between the two at New York.)
For New England quarterback Tom Brady, the loss is his first in the regular season since being shut out by the Dolphins in December 2006. Brady completed 23 of 47 passes for 216 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception.
The pick came by cornerback Darrelle Revis, who blanketed New England receiver Randy Moss all day. He finished with only four receptions for 24 yards. Rookie Julian Edelman, who played extensively due to a knee injury that prevented Wes Welker from playing, caught eight passes for 98 yards.
Brady has now thrown 100 passes in two games, which puts him on pace for 800 for the season -- 109 more than the all-time single-season record of 691, which was set 15 years ago by Drew Bledsoe.
For the Jets, rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez completed 14 of 22 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown. The fifth overall pick in the 2009 draft is now 2-0.
So, yeah, they didn’t win the Super Bowl. (Yet.) But the Jets already are moving in the right direction toward the ultimate prize.
