Washington’s PR chief pushes German TV interviewer

After the Washington-Cincinnati game in London today, a German TV interviewer approached Washington kicker Dustin Hopkins to ask him about missing a potentially game-winning field goal. Washington’s top public relations official did not appreciate that.

Washington Senior Vice President of Communications Tony Wyllie jumped in while the interview was airing live on German television, pushed the interviewer away from Hopkins and yelled, “No! No! No! No interviews!

The interviewer didn’t seem too upset, smiling and saying something in German before sending it back to the studio. And the interviewer’s colleagues in the German TV studio seemed to find the whole thing hilarious. So it’s not going to become an international incident.

But it wasn’t a good look for Wyllie, who has intervened with a non-English post-game interview before, pushing away Washington quarterback Colt McCoy while John Sutcliffe of ESPN Deportes tried to interview him after a 2014 game. Team PR people have to scramble to properly manage players’ media appearances after games, but Wyllie could stand to tone it down a notch.
