Raiders promoted former run game coordinator/defensive line coach Rob Leonard to defensive coordinator.
Leonard previously spent six seasons with the Giants before coaching with the Raiders under Patrick Graham last year. The Raiders conducted their fair share of interviews for the vacant defensive coordinator position before promoting from within. Leonard worked closely with Pro Bowl defensive lineman Maxx Crosby, potentially marking a play at retaining the veteran rusher this offseason.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports the Raiders are retaining DL coach Rob Leonard and naming him as their run game coordinator.
Leonard interviewed for the Raiders defensive coordinator vacancy last week before Pete Carroll ultimately decided to retain defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. This will be Leonard’s third season in the defensive line coach role. The Raiders’ defensive line totaled 66.0 NFL sacks over the last two regular seasons, ranking 21st in the NFL.

The Athletic’s Tashan Reed reports the Raiders will interview DL coach Rob Leonard for their defensive coordinator vacancy.
Leonard has a holdover from the Josh McDaniels/Antonio Pierce regimes and first joined the Raiders in 2023. An 11-year vet as an NFL coach, Leonard entered the league as a defensive assistant coach with the Giants in 2013 and has also spent time with the Dolphins and Ravens. He has never held a title as defensive coordinator and seems like a long shot to land the Raiders gig at this time.
