Despite a strong recruiting effort by the Packers, rookie QB Rod Rutherford return to the Panthers practice squad.
Rutherford cleared waivers yesterday after the Panthers released him Saturday. It’s possible that Green Bay’s only interest was to pick his brain about the Carolina offense -- their Monday night opponent.
  • PIT Quarterback
The Panthers have a tough decision to make with QB Rod Rutherford.
The Pittsburgh product can only stay on the team if Carolina cuts Chris Weinke or Rodney Peete. If he clears waivers, he’ll likely be put on the practice squad.
  • PIT Quarterback
Panthers activated QB Rod Rutherford before Sunday’s game.
That means they hold his exclusive rights in the offseason. Carolina obviously sees Rutherford as a long-term possibility behind Jake Delhomme. Rodney Peete may retire.
  • PIT Quarterback
Panthers waived QB Rod Rutherford, CB Dwight Anderson, OL Bill Ferrario, C Chase Johnson, DT Omari Jordan, LB Marcus Lawrence, RB Nick Maddox, TE Chad Mustard, WR J.R. Tolver, and G Michael Watson.
Rutherford may be kept on Carolina’s practice squad. Tolver may be out of shots in the NFL.
  • PIT Quarterback
The Steelers signed QB Rod Rutherford to the practice squad.
Just a little extra insurance in case QB Ben Roethlisberger’s knee injury keeps him out for a while.
  • PIT Quarterback
Panthers QB Rod Rutherford is unlikely to make the team’s week one roster.
It looks like Jake Delhomme, Chris Weinke, and rookie Stefan LeFors at quarterback for Carolina. Rutherford could make the practice team.

  • PIT Quarterback
The Steelers signed QB Rod Rutherford, OLs Tim Brown and Ulish Booker, TE Erik Jensen, FB John Kuhn, and LBs Richard Siegler and Ronald Stanley.
Some needed bodies. Rutherford spent the end of last season on Pittsburgh’s practice squad.
  • PIT Quarterback
    Steelers released QB Rod Rutherford.
The former University of Pittsburgh star could be done as a pro. This is a good sign the Steelers aren’t worried about Ben Roethlisberger missing time in camp. The team picked up NFL Europe wide receiver Marvin Allen to replace him.
  • PIT Quarterback
QB Rod Rutherford (foot) is being held out of early minicamp work.
Rutherford will likely battle Omar Jacobs for the No. 3 job. Others missing out include: S Mike Logan (knee), WR Quincy Morgan (leg), T Max Starks (arthroscopic knee surgery). CB Chidi Iwuoma (ankle), LB Andre Frazier (ankle), and undrafted FA linebacker Mike Kudla (hamstring) are being limited to light work.
