Hannah, a college basketball player who spent ’08 on the practice squad, is in a roster battle with rookie John Phillips behind Jason Witten and Martellus Bennett. Hannah is the better athlete, but Phillips is a pro-ready blocker.

Hannah, a practice squad player the past two seasons, asked for his release when it became clear that he wouldn’t make the team. Scott Chandler and rookie John Phillips are now battling for the No. 3 tight end job.

One of Dallas Morning News draft analyst Rick “Goose” Gosselin’s sleepers coming out in the 2007 draft, Hannah will add depth for Week 17 with Jason Witten banged up. The Cowboys clearly believe Witten’s ankle is a major concern. A former basketball player, Hannah is highly athletic but very raw.
