    49ers placed CB Samuel Womack (knee) on injured reserve.
    Per 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan, Womack suffered an MCL injury in Week 1. He won’t need surgery but will miss at least the next four games while on injured reserve. Womack pitched in a handful of snaps at cornerback every week as a rookie in 2022 while also being a core contributor on special teams.

    Womack (5'9"/189) was a prep superstar who nevertheless focused on basketball, limiting his FBS offers. That, and the fact that he was a 5-foot-9 receiver. A walk-on corner in the MAC, Womack immediately excelled in covered, leading the conference in PBUs three straight seasons. A consummate underdogger, The Athletic’s Dane Brugler believes Womack has the competitive drive, body control and “on-ball production” to carve out a career as an NFL nickel.
