He should be ready to play on Sunday, same as Ted Washington. Sapp has been a massive disappointment in Oakland, making virtually no impact despite his big mouth and big contract.

Sapp and Washington were expensive busts last year and may have to return at a reduced rate.

“They’ve definitely become the front runner,” agent Drew Rosenhaus said. “It could be just a matter of hours.”

“We looked at his playing time and he’s been in the mid- 80 percent [of the defense’s plays] range,” Turner said. “When you ask a guy to play that much in his style, it takes a toll. He’s going to be in on run downs and obviously in all your goal-line things.” Sapp will likely not be on the field during third-down passing situations.

The Ravens might prefer to use a big portion of their funds to make a run at Terrell Owens. They will look to improve their defensive line, but Gary Walker, assuming that he’s released by the Texans, could be a cheaper alternative.

There’s been talk Sapp could be cut if the Raiders opt for a full-out youth movement. He also knows coach Tony Dungy from their time together in Tampa Bay. Johnson doesn’t fit the team’s profile and seems a stretch.

He was a disaster as a 3-4 defensive end last year. While Sapp may play better at his natural position, he’s no longer a factor in IDP fantasy leagues.

The deal included a $7 million signing bonus, a few million more than most anticipated. The Bengals were used once again to drive a free agent’s price up. While the bonus is large, Sapp is a fine investment at that price if he has a few productive years. He will team with Ted Washington to make a massive and old defensive front line.

Good news for leagues that use “disturbing touchdown dances” as a category.

He’ll likely be third behind under tackle Warren Sapp and NT Terdell Sands. Kelly has been productive in seasons past but is clearly off the IDP radar.
