Warren Sapp, battling an ankle injury, finished Raiders practice Wednesday.
He should be ready to play on Sunday, same as Ted Washington. Sapp has been a massive disappointment in Oakland, making virtually no impact despite his big mouth and big contract.
  • TB Defensive Lineman
Warren Sapp, Ted Washington, and guard Frank Middleton are all candidates to be released this week.
Sapp and Washington were expensive busts last year and may have to return at a reduced rate.
  • TB Defensive Lineman
Warren Sapp is close to signing a four-year deal to play for the Bengals, his agent said Friday night.
“They’ve definitely become the front runner,” agent Drew Rosenhaus said. “It could be just a matter of hours.”
  • TB Defensive Lineman
Raiders coach Norv Turner plans to use Warren Sapp as a situational defensive tackle.
“We looked at his playing time and he’s been in the mid- 80 percent [of the defense’s plays] range,” Turner said. “When you ask a guy to play that much in his style, it takes a toll. He’s going to be in on run downs and obviously in all your goal-line things.” Sapp will likely not be on the field during third-down passing situations.
  • TB Defensive Lineman
The Ravens, who have a league-high $24 million in salary cap room available, may not be as interested in Warren Sapp as previously thought.
The Ravens might prefer to use a big portion of their funds to make a run at Terrell Owens. They will look to improve their defensive line, but Gary Walker, assuming that he’s released by the Texans, could be a cheaper alternative.
  • FA Defensive Lineman
The Colts are expected to look at free agent DT Tank Johnson and Raiders DT Warren Sapp as they attempt to replace Anthony McFarland (knee).
There’s been talk Sapp could be cut if the Raiders opt for a full-out youth movement. He also knows coach Tony Dungy from their time together in Tampa Bay. Johnson doesn’t fit the team’s profile and seems a stretch.
  • TB Defensive Lineman
Warren Sapp will return to his natural 4-3 ''under’’ tackle position this season.
He was a disaster as a 3-4 defensive end last year. While Sapp may play better at his natural position, he’s no longer a factor in IDP fantasy leagues.
  • TB Defensive Lineman
Warren Sapp signed a seven year, $36 million deal to become an Oakland Raider.
The deal included a $7 million signing bonus, a few million more than most anticipated. The Bengals were used once again to drive a free agent’s price up. While the bonus is large, Sapp is a fine investment at that price if he has a few productive years. He will team with Ted Washington to make a massive and old defensive front line.
  • TB Defensive Lineman
The Raiders will use Warren Sapp this season as a reserve tight end.
Good news for leagues that use “disturbing touchdown dances” as a category.
  • FA Defensive Lineman
The Raiders are expected to keep Tommy Kelly at tackle this season.
He’ll likely be third behind under tackle Warren Sapp and NT Terdell Sands. Kelly has been productive in seasons past but is clearly off the IDP radar.
