Burrows leaves Saddledome in ambulance, out with reported broken rib

A bizarre scene today in Calgary, where Canucks forward Alex Burrows was rolled out of Vancouver’s dressing room on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance.

The Canucks say Burrows has an upper-body injury and was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. He will not play tonight.

Burrows had earlier departed the team’s morning skate, reportedly yelling “help” as he left the ice, with team doctors reportedly in tow.

For a time, there was speculation Burrows was having a little fun with the media, and Canucks president Trevor Linden did not dispel that notion when he went on the radio and said it was “nothing serious” and that Burrows was expected to play.

The Canucks had already recalled winger Sven Baertschi before Burrows was hurt at practice, so expect the former Flames prospect in the lineup tonight.

It’s reportedly a broken rib.
