The New York Islanders made a major splash into the free agent waters on Friday, locking up Andrew Ladd to a seven-year, $38.5 million deal. They followed that up by adding Jason Chimera for two years.
On Saturday, the Islanders brought in another veteran forward via the free agent market, adding 33-year-old P.A. Parenteau on a one-year contract worth $1.25 million, according to Arthur Staple of Newsday.
Last season with Toronto, Parenteau scored 20 goals -- matching his single-season career high from the 2010-11 season when he was with the Islanders -- and 41 points.
As pointed out, there’s familiarity between the player and organization. In fact, his most productive hockey came when Parenteau was with the Islanders, with a total of 120 points in two seasons, spending the majority of his time at five-on-five alongside John Tavares and Matt Moulson.

Parenteau then went on to make stops in Colorado, Montreal and Toronto.
Prior to the 2016 trade deadline, the Islanders and Maple Leafs were reportedly working on a deal involving Parenteau, but couldn’t work anything out, keeping Parenteau in Toronto for the remainder of the season.
The Islanders lost three key free agents in Kyle Okposo (Buffalo), Matt Martin (Toronto) and Frans Nielsen (Detroit). Now, where could Parenteau fit in this Islanders lineup after four seasons away from that team?
Parenteau was with #Isles from 2010-12, had 120 points in two seasons on John Tavares' RW. Likely he'll be back there to start this season.
