Lindsey Vonn will race for the first time in nearly one year on Friday. She feels the butterflies.

“I’m sure I’m going to be a little bit nervous, and that’s a good thing,” she said after her third and final training run in Lake Louise, Alberta, on Thursday. “I tend to get a little bit more fired up when I’m more nervous.”

Vonn, returning from knee surgery that kept her out of the Sochi Olympics, finished 18th, eighth and 13th in three downhill training runs the last three days, leading into Friday’s downhill at Lake Louise.

Vonn has said her goal for Friday is to finish in the top five. Vonn has another downhill Saturday and a super-G on Sunday at a course nicknamed “Lake Lindsey.”

Vonn, 30, won seven straight World Cup races in Lake Louise from 2010 to 2012. She finished first or second in 17 of 19 World Cup races there from 2006 to 2012.

“It feels like I’m learning to ride the bike again,” she said Thursday. “I’m getting back into the rhythm of things. I think every day has gotten better.”
