Marielle Thompson gives Canada a second straight gold in women’s ski cross

The last few days have gone awfully well for Canada’s Olympic team and that trend continued with the second-ever women’s ski cross event on Friday.

Canada took the top two spots on the podium as Marielle Thompson and Kelsey Serwa notched gold and silver respectively. Canadian Ashleigh Mclvor won gold in 2010, so this is becoming a go-to event for Canadian medals.

It wasn’t a total sweep, however, as Sweden’s Anna Holmlund won bronze.

Again, this adds to a nice recent haul for Canada. On Thursday, women’s curling team won gold while Canada’s women’s hockey team managed a come-from-behind win for gold. Friday could really add to that as the men’s curling team is in the gold-medal game while their men’s hockey team faces the U.S. in a semifinal match.

As of this writing, the Canadians grabbed 22 medals in Sochi, including eight golds.
