The 2014 Winter Olympics will kick into another gear with Friday’s Opening Ceremony, with coverage began on NBC at 7:30 p.m. ET. If you’d like a nice primer for what to expect, check out this video from NBCOlympics.com.

In short, expect Sochi to empty its bag of tricks in promoting Russian culture at Fisht Stadium. Plenty of surprises are being kept under wraps, although USA Today’s Dan Wolken reports that you can at least expect a lot of fireworks (literally).

Years of planning will culminate in a big show tonight. Again, you can tune in on NBC starting at 7:30 p.m. ET and find out what to expect here.
