Alvarez

Alvarez made his first appearance in the majors for the Mets this season since the 2015 campaign. Unfortunately, it didn’t go well as he allowed three runs over 2 1/3 innings before being shipped back to the minors. The 31-year-old right-hander will look for a new opportunity on the open market.

Alvarez passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last week and will remain with the Mets as organizational relief depth. The 31-year-old righty made his first appearance in the majors last week since the 2015 campaign.

The Mets needed to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Brett Baty to join the big league roster on Wednesday and Alvarez appears to have drawn the short straw. The 31-year-old southpaw posted an 11.57 ERA, 3.00 WHIP and 2/3 K/BB ratio over 2 1/3 innings in his lone appearance with the Mets.

Alvarez will give the Mets a fresh bullpen arm after Monday night’s bullpen-crushing 13-1 loss at Atlanta. The 31-year-old right-hander has not yet made an appearance at the major league level this season.

Alvarez went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last week. The 31-year-old righty was up briefly for the Mets in early July, but never made it into a game for New York. He’s recorded a solid 3.16 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 33/19 K/BB ratio across 31 1/3 innings (26 appearances) this season at Triple-A Syracuse. He last appeared in the majors back in 2015.

Alvarez did not make an appearance during his short stay in the Mets’ bullpen. The 31-year-old right-hander has not thrown an official pitch at the major league level since way back in 2015 with the A’s.

Assuming he gets into a game, it will be Alvarez’s first time pitching in the majors since 2015. He’s posted a 2.49 ERA over 20 appearances with Syracuse this season.

Alvarez hasn’t appeared in a big league game since way back in 2015 with the Athletics. He posted a 4.08 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and 44/18 K/BB ratio in 35 1/3 innings of relief last year for the Triple-A affiliate of the Brewers.

Alvarez signed a minor league contract with Boston back in December, but there will be no minor league seasons this year. The 29-year-old right-hander last pitched in the majors in 2015 with the Athletics.

Alvarez, 28, held a 4.70 ERA over 50 appearances at Triple-A in the Marlins organization in 2019. He hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2015.
